De Axilock-uitvoering heeft twee metalen ankerringen die in de buiswand grijpen wanneer de koppeling geïnstalleerd wordt. Op deze manier wordt voorkomen dat de buizen onder druk of bij trekbelasting uit elkaar getrokken worden.

Iedere koppeling (zowel Axilock als Axiflex) bestaat uit een behuizing, een manchet en een sluiting. Het doel van de behuizing is om het manchet te omsluiten en tegen de buiswand te duwen wanneer de sluiting aangedraaid is. De sluiting trekt de twee uiteinden van de behuizing samen zodat deze gelijkmatig om de gehele buis komt te zitten. Om dit te bereiken is op de koppeling het aandraaimoment aangegeven dat er voor zorgt dat het manchet voldoende druk op de buiswand uitoefent.

De Axilock heeft twee ankerringen die grenzend aan (maar wel separaat van) het manchet zijn aangebracht. Wanneer de sluiting aangedraaid is, wordt het manchet tegen de buiswand geduwd om een afdichting te bewerkstelligen. Tegelijkertijd dringen de tanden van de ankerringen door het rubber manchet heen en grijpen vervolgens in de wand van de twee buizen om te voorkomen dat deze uit elkaar getrokken worden bij zowel druk- als trekbelasting. De buitenkant van het manchet wordt eveneens tegen de buiswand geduwd waardoor zowel de ankerring als het gedeelte van de buis waar de ankerring ingrijpt beschermd worden tegen mogelijke corrosie.
